25-year-old lady has been arrested for allegedly murdering her 29-year-old boyfriend over issues related to abortion in Anambra state.
Onyinye Chime allegedly Azubuike Eleyi to death for suggesting she terminate a pregnancy that emanated from their friendship.
Haruna Mohammed, a spokesperson for the Anambra state police command, who confirmed the lady’s arrest on Thursday, said the incident occurred on Wednesday in Nkpor, Idemili North LGA.
“There was a report of alleged murder of Eleyi Azubuike aged 29 years of Ochiagha street, Nkpor in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State by his girlfriend Onyinye Chime aged 25 years,” he said.
Police detectives attached to Ogidi Division led by the DPO CSP Ekuri Remigius visited the scene and rushed victim, who was found in a pool of his blood, to Iyi Enu Mission hospital Ogidi.
“He was certified dead on arrival. The corpse was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.”
The spokesperson said observation of the deceased body revealed a stab wound on his chest while a blood-stained knife was recovered at the scene as exhibit.
He also said that “preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased allegedly impregnated the suspect and wanted an abortion which she declined and demanded some money for her upkeep.”
“The deceased also refused to oblige. That led to a scuffle which resulted in the deceased being stabbed. The case is under investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he added.
Onyinye was said to have stabbed Azubuike to death when an argument ensued between them after she refused to terminate the pregnancy.
The suspect was said to have demanded money from her boyfriend for her upkeep when she found out she was pregnant, but the victim said he was not ready to father a baby.
