Musician, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, was on Thursday arrested and charged to court for holding a concert in Abuja despite the ban on gatherings in Nigeria in line with the Coronavirus protocols.
According to reports, the singer was arrested in Lagos and taken to the State Special Offences Court in Ikeja.
The police filed charges against Naira Marley for violating COVID-19 directives banning interstate travels.
The singer had made headlines weeks ago after videos surfaced online showing him boarding an airplane at a time interstate travels were banned and later mingled with fans during the music concert.
Marley flew in a chartered plane meant for a Lagos Judge to the Federal Capital Territory for the concert on Saturday, July 13.
The concert at the Jabi Lake Mall elicited public outcries with many who attended breaking protocols at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic.
Spokesperson for the police in Lagos, Bala Elkana, confirmed that Naira Marley was arraigned in court for the offence.
He said, “We are in court as we speak. He will be arraigned for violating the interstate travel order. That is the aspect that concerns Lagos State.”
Naira Marley, who is not a stranger to controversies, was also indicted when he showed up at a party organised by Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, in honour of her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz.
