Nigerian gay lovers risk 14 years in jail as they profess love for each other (video)

A Nigerian ‘gay activist’ identified as Chef Ayomide has stated clearly that he has every right to live freely with his lover because they pay tax like any other citizen.

Sharing a video of himself and his gay lover cuddling themselves, Ayomide said he no longer cares about the heavy criticisms and constant backlashes which he faces.

Speaking further, Ayomide stressed that he isn’t coming out to gain attention or to trend on social media, rather, he is coming out to change the narrative that gay men should always hide inside their shelves.
“I can’t stop coming out, and I don’t care if these will tarnish my image. This is the real me”, he said.

Both male and female same-sex sexual activity is illegal in Nigeria. The maximum punishment in the twelve northern states that have adopted Shari’a law is death by stoning. That law applies to all Muslims and to those who have voluntarily consented to application of the Shari’a courts. In southern Nigeria and under the secular criminal laws of northern Nigeria, the maximum punishment for same-sex sexual activity is 14 years’ imprisonment. The Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act criminalizes all forms of same-sex unions and same-sex marriage throughout the country.
