Catriona Gray from the Philippines has been crowned the Miss Universe 2018 at the grand finale of the beauty pageant that ended on Monday morning in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 24-year-old Filipino-Australian lost the Miss World crown two years ago after she was widely tipped to win. She became a social media star after a photo of her weeping, clutching the Philippine flag close to her chest, made the rounds on many platforms.
Fans screamed at the venue of the pageant as outgoing Miss Universe Demi Leigh Nel Peters from South Africa crowned her successor. Tamaryn Green of South Africa was first runner-up followed by Miss Venezuela.
Catriona Gray brought home the fourth Miss Universe crown for the the Philippines. She now joins Gloria Diaz, Margarita Moran and Pia Wurtzbach, who won in 1969, 1973, 2015, respectively.
