Google honours late Christy Essien-Igbokwe with Doodle

Google has honoured late Nigerian music icon, Christy Uduak Essien-Igbokwe, with its Doodle.

Essien-Igbokwe, refereed to as Nigeria’s Lady of Song turned 58 today, Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, and the search engine giants decided to celebrate her by changing its logo to her picture.

Born on November 11, 1960 in Akwa Ibom State, Christy Essien-igbokwe died on June 30, 2011 in Lagos.

Known for hit songs like “Seun Rere”,  “Teta Nu Na Ula” “Ever Liked My Person”, Essien-igbokwe was the first female president of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, PMAN, She was also the chairwoman and managing director of Soul Train.

Essien-Igbokwe sang her songs in Igbo, Ibibio, Efik, Hausa, Yoruba as well as in English.

Her fluency in Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, English and her native Ibibio earned her an appeal which cut across tribal lines.
