Minnesota governor declares October 6 ‘Wizkid Day’

Nigerian Afro-pop star, Wizkid, has been honoured in the US by the governor of Minnesota, Mark Dayton.

Dayton declared October 6 of every year as ‘Wizkid Day’. The day has been set aside to celebrate the Nigerian singer.

The singer performed at Skyway Theatre in Minneapolis on Saturday. Some of his achievements were stated in the proclamation letter signed by the governor.

It read in part: “On Saturday, October 6, 2018, thousands of Minnesotans will gather at Skyway Theatre in Minneapolis to see Wizkid perform, and hopefully make history as the first African artist to sell out the venue.

“Wizkid has inspired Minnesotans and music fans around the world, as one of the biggest cultural influencers of our time.”

The singer, currently on a tour of the US,  recently released ‘Fever’ and ‘Master Groove’, his first solo singles of 2018.

Before performing in Minnesota, Wizkid had a show at Strand Ballroom and Theatre, Providence, Rhode Island.
