Who is not aware that EQUITY is a major bedrock of representative democracy? Who does not understand that the potential of any society to attain its full essence is hinged primarily on EGALITARIANISM? Is there anyone lost on the fact that our great party – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has enshrined rotation/zoning of elective political offices as a fundamental principle meant to eschew bad blood, enthrone a sense of belonging across board, and create enviable camaraderie amongst constituent units?
Nsukka Asadu Ideke Ar’mona is on the verge of repudiating this time-tested norm, with the dishonest endorsement of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State; himself a beneficiary of the aforementioned equitable rotational policy of the PDP! Hon Patrick Asadu is being positioned to be above the reach of Article 7 of the PDP constitution which provides for “adhering to the policy of rotation and zoning of party and elective public offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness”, with Governor Ugwuanyi fraudulently fronting him for a FOURTH TERM in the national assembly.
Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South people are tired of the non-representation that has been their collective lot under Patrick Asadu’s inglorious stewardship, and have manifestly given vent to their frustrations through recent vociferous public protests aimed at arresting the drift to anarchy via inequitable IMPOSITION. The youth of Nsukka, under the aegis of NSUKKA/IGBO-EZE SOUTH RESCUE MOVEMENT have made representations, organised rallies and protests at different levels to protest this brazen injustice, all to no avail. We do not intend to stop screaming about our frustrations so that all well-meaning people can prevail on the status quo to do the right thing for once. Governor Ugwuanyi runs the huge risk of introducing venomous ethos into the body-politic of Enugu State politics by insisting that Patrick Asadu be given the mandate to persist and perpetuate his sub-standard representation of an enlightened citizenry in dire need of quality leadership. We are gradually sacrificing merit on the altar of political expediency and a fatalistic patronage system which insists on perpetuating mediocrity in power. NSUKKA/IGBO-EZE SOUTH RESCUE MOVEMENT shall continue to rally all sane voices to prevail on the governor of Enugu State to see reason, and ensure that justice is done on this matter. His arrogant silence and dubious support for Patrick Asadu’s inordinate ambition must be called out for what it is, and fought with vigour.
Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South! The time has come for a holistic rejection of the antics of a few power-mongers intent on crushing our innate and acquired values of fairness. The time has come to resist all shades of amoral connivance that will certainly push our people even closer to the fringes of despair. The voice of the people is the voice of God. We must rise and resist this anomaly. We must keep speaking with one voice and let the governor and Patrick Asadu know that we have had ENOUGH OF THE NONSENSE!
