Former Akwa Ibom governor, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has officially decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Akpabio was welcomed to the ruling party on Wednesday at a massive rally organised for him by the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the APC.
No fewer than 30 APC’s senators and members of National Working Committee were on hand to receive the ex-senate minority leader, Akpabio.
Among Senators in attendance were: Abdullahi Yahaya, Abdullahi Gumel from Jigawa State, Muhammed Sani from Niger State, Gbenga Ashafa from Lagos State and Former Nasarawa Governor, Abdullahi Adamu.
Also in attendance were: Senators Abubakar Kyari from Borno State, Babajide Omoworare from Osun State, Magnus Abe from Rivers, Mao Ohabunwa from Edo and Nelson Efiong from Akwa Ibom.
The Senate Majority leader, Sen. Ahmed Lawan, who introduced his colleagues spoke on Akpabio whom he described as a nationalist and patriot who believes in Nigeria’s unity.
“This defection has swallowed all other defections.
“One defection that is more than 14.
“This is a defection that has shaken the Peoples Democratic Party.”
“They followed Akpabio everywhere to prevent him from defecting but he ignored them,’’ Lawan said.
“I have never been charged to court… The EFCC did not find anything on me,” he said.
He also declared that he is taking Akwa Ibom state to the centre.
Also in attendance at rally were APC National Leader Bola Tinubu, the party’s chairman Adams Oshiohmole, among others.
